10/15/2010 911 Hang- up.  Gasconade County E-911 Board may drop Rosebud Building

Both the Gasconade County 911 Board and Gasconade County Sheriff Randy Esphorst say they have no interest in even exploring the idea of a jail in the former elementary school in Rosebud if the Rosebud public doesn't want it. The 911 board has been weighing an offer from the Gasconade County R-2 School District to sell the 911 board the former school for $1.00; recently, the 911 board asked the sheriff if it might be a good place for a jail.  The 911 board says it can only afford to run about half of the building, and would need a partner or tenant to help with the other half.  Obviously, the 911 service already works closely with the sheriff's department.

[New!] 10/13/2010 Jail proposal sparks interest among county commissioners

Meeting Thursday in Owensville, Gasconade County Commission members expressed interest in a proposal to use a portion of the old Rosebud elementary school site as a jail facility.Sheriff Randy Esphorst said he had been approached by Gasconade County E-911 members about the possibility of using a portion of the building if E-911 should decide to take over the site. E-911 was offered the building, for a nominal fee, by the Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education. E-911 Board of Directors have been granted until the end of the year to decide if the group wishes to take possession of the school building constructed in 1968.

[New!] 09/15/2010 E-911 board seeks additional time to fully research Rosebud school site

Board member John Adams seemed to sum up what many appeared to be thinking during their two hour meeting at the school.  “It’s a wonderfully benevolent gift,” said Adams. “But, can we handle it?”  The board unanimously approved a motion pledging “continued due diligence” in researching cost estimates for the project while asking the Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education to allow them to take until the end of 2010 to make a decision. The motion included a sincere thank you for the offer and for the school district’s willingness to work with E-911 as they research their options.
